Camel is popularly known as the “Ship of the Desert” and has been an integral part in the life of Rajasthan. To honour this, the people of Rajasthan celebrated Bikaner Camel Festival every year in Bikaner. This desert town is located right in northern part of Rajasthan. The Camel Festival is a special event organized in the city of Bikaner by the Tourism Department, Art and Culture, Rajasthan Government, in month of January every year. Desert region's Music and Folk dances; Makes its place in this fair making it an exclusive one. The Bikaner camel festival begins with the camels which are beautifully decorated passing before the Junagarh fort in Bikaner. The journey continues to the open sand of grounds. This is how the festival is started with colourful pageant. On the 1st day of the festival, a contest is held for the best jewellery and decoration of cutting design of fur on camels. The best breed of camel is organized. Camel races, camel dancing performances are held on second day of the event. The amazing movements of foot and dance performances by the camels here manage to cast magical spell on mind of the spectators.
