Shimla

Shimla - a prominent hill station of India
When we talk about the state of Himachal Pradesh in India, the first thing which strikes our mind is of the beautiful hill stations of the state. One of the prominent and well known hill stations of Himachal Pradesh is Shimla. Shimla Cityis one of the prime spots of tourist visit in India especially during the summer season. Shimla City is the capital city for the state of Himachal Pradesh. The Shimla tourism business is one of the prime sources of income for the people of Shimla and the same is very well developed.
The government of the state has left no stone unturned in developing the place for making it more attractive to the tourists. The scenic view of the city plays a key role in attracting not only tourists from different parts of India but also from overseas too. Everyone has a desire to visit hill station Shimla once in his or her life.
Shimla, Himachal’s Capital, is India’s largest and most famous hill station. This city is also known as the ‘The Queen of Hill Stations’. The city is favourite spot for Indian families and honeymooners, its size does little to win its popularity among Western tourists who tend to pass through on their way to Manali. It is however, a perfect halfway house if you’re heading to the Kullu valley, or back or back in the other direction towards the plains of Haryana and Punjab. It is also the starting post of forays into the more remote regions of Kinnaur and Spiti.
The southernmost area of the state, Sirmaur, is Himachacl’s most fertile area. Nahan, the capital, holds little of interest, but the major Gurudwara in Paonta Sahib and Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary are worth visiting if you have your own transport. Southeast of Shimla, Kasauli is a peaceful place to break your journey from Chandigarh, whilst nearby Nalagarh Fort has been converted into the finest hotel in the state.
Northest of Shimla, the village of Sarahan, site of the famous Bhimkali temple, set against a backdrop of the majestic Himalayas, can be visited in a two-or three-day round trip from Shimla, or en route to Spiti.

History of Shimla
It was in the year 1864 when Shimla for the first time declared as the summer capital for the British India. This city was named after the regional goddess of Himachal Pradesh Ma Shyamali Devi. The city of Shimla is formed by 19 small hill stations which are Balson, Ratesh, Bushahr, Sangri, Bhaji, Rawingarh, Koti, Tharoch & Dhad, Darkoti, Kumharsain, Dhami, Khaneti & Delath, Jubbal, Madhan and Keothal.
