Varuthini Ekadashi, also referred as Baruthani Ekadashi. This Hindu festival falls on Ekadashi (eleventh lunar day) of the fortnight of the waning moon of Hindu Vaishakha month (according to North Indian) and Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month (according to South Indian). By both systems, this Ekadashi falls on the same day in April or May month. Like all Ekadashis, Lord Vishnu, (especially his 5th avatar Vamana), is mainly worshipped on Varuthini Ekadashi.

Rituals on Varuthini Ekadashi
Just like other Ekadashis, God Vishnu is worshipped on this Ekadashi as well. His 5th incarnation (avatar) God Vamana is specially worshiped on this special festival. Vishnu Followers also make special preparations for this occasion, wherein they have to follow some strict rules to make the festival fruitful for them as well as for everyone else. It is believed that if devotees follow the rituals on this special occasion, the follower’s family will be protected from all evils.
Fasting (Vrat) on this Ekadashi is considered to brings luck for the worshippers. It is also believed that Fast kept on this auspicious day is similar to performing penance for around 1000 years. The fasting rules of this festival are different from other festivals. The devotees have to eat only once, a day before the Varuthini Ekadashi.
A complete Vrat needs to be observed on this day and devotees must follow up with reciting religious sermons in praise of Lord Vishnu’s fifth avatar- Lord Vamana. Devotees in North and South India celebrate Varuthini Ekadashi with full faith, enthusiasm, devoutness and religious fervour.
