National Youth Day

In 1984, National Youth Day (Yuva Diwas or Swami Vivekananda Birthday) was declared by the Government of India, that 12th January will be observed as National Youth Day. India annually observes 'National Youth Day', to commemorate the birthday of the social reformer, philosopher and great philosopher Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. He was the maker of the modern India. Since 1985, it is celebrated with the greatest delight and enthusiasm in India.

It was decided by the Govt. Of India in order to inspire the youth generation of India towards the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and his principles. The birthday of the Swami Vivekananda will be celebrated as the Yuva Diwas or National Youth Day to complete the goal of making a better future of the country by inspiring and motivating the youths through life philosophies. It is the greatest way to wake up the eternal energy of the youths and their great efforts to make the country developed.

Who is Swami Vivekananda?

Swami Vivekananda (original name was Narendra Nath Datta) was born on Jan 12, 1863 into an aristocrat family in West Bengal. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission and the Ramakrishna Math after death of Saint Ramkrishna. Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902 at the age of 39 at Belur Math near Kolkata.

Swami Vivekananda emphasized Meditation, Yoga and Self-discipline while speaking out strongly against the curse of injustice, poverty, prejudice and discrimination. He was the key force behind the introduction of Indian philosophies of Yoga and Vedanta to the western world.

Swami Vivekananda was accredited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major religion of the world in the late 19th century. National Youth Day (Yuva Diwas or Swami Vivekananda Birthday) is celebrated by the youths by performing the parade, speeches on Swami Vivekananda, debate, recitations, music, conventions, Yogasanas, presentations, essay-writing competition, seminar, sports and etc. Lectures, Writings and Philosophies related to the ideas of Swami Vivekananda ji are also performed by the students to inspire the youth generation.
