Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi
Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi is celebrated on the eleventh day in the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu Kartik month (Oct-Nov). It is believed that Lord Vishnu goes into deep slumber on Deva Shayani Ekadashi and wakes up on Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi, thus the day is famous as "Prabodhini Ekadashi" ("awakening eleventh"), Vishnu-prabodhini ("awakening of Vishnu") and Deothan Dev-Prabodhini Ekadashi,, Dev uthav ekadashi, Devotthan Ekadashi, Haribodhini or Dev Oothi ekadashi ("God's awakening").

This Ekadashi also marks the end of Chaturmaas (the four holy months of the rainy season). This Ekadashi is also known as Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, Kartiki Ekadashi and Kartiki. This Ekadashi is followed by Kartik Poornima, which day is celebrated as Diwali of Gods or Dev Diwali. It is believed that by observing fast on this day, all the sins committed in previous lives are wiped away and the observer of Prabodhini Ekadashi Vrat (or fast) gets the path to Moksha (liberation).
Hari Prabodhini Ekadasi, which falls in the Kartik month, is considered very auspicious by Lord Vishnu devotees. Majority of the people visit the Lord Vishnu temples and other shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The ritual marriage of the Tulsi plant is also performed with Lord Vishnu, who is considered as symbolical husband of Maa Tulsi. This ritual marriage on Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi is known as Tulsi Vivah and may be conducted on the next day of the day instead of Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi itself.
On this Ekadashi devotees also worship Lord Krishna with flower, fruits and camphor. They also read ancient religious books like ‘Vishnu Sahastranaam’ and other books dedicated to God Vishnu to receive his divine blessings and affection.
Significance of Prabodhini Ekadashi:
The glory of this Ekadashi was first narrated by Lord Brahma to Narada Muni. The Lord stated that observing the strict fast on this auspicious day is more meritorious than performing 1000 Asvamedha sacrifices or taking a sacred dip in the Hindu pilgrimages. By the virtues of the Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi, the devotee of this vrat will be bestowed with prosperity, fame, success and will finally find place in ‘Vaikunth’, the heavenly abode of God Vishnu.
The celebration of Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi, Dev Uthav Ekadashi or Kartik Shukla Ekadashi is very prominent in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
