An overview of Dharmapuri:
Dharmapuri is located in the North western parts of Tamil Nadu. Dharmapuri came into the existence from the 2nd of October in1965. The district had been bounded by the Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts in the east, the industrial Salem to its South, Krishnagiri in the North and the Stupendous Kaveri guarding the western borders of the district. Geographically the place is located between the coordinates of latitudes between the N 11 47’ and 12 33’ and the longitudes run between the E 77 02’ and 78 40’. Dharmapuri cover about almost of 4497.77 sq. km, constituting almost of 35 of the entire state of Tamil Nadu.
Prominent place of interest at Dharmapuri:
Hogenakal: A water fall in its nature Hogenakal had been situated at the state borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The place of Hogenakal had been is situated from 46 km from Dharmapuri. The word Hogenakal in Karnataka means “Smoky rocks”. It is so named because the river water falls into the rocky places below the falls and the place becomes foggy. Country made boats called “PARISHAL” offers a thrilling experience of a boat ride into the falls. The place being surrounded by the hills from all the sides the place creates a complete different ambience on the people who wish to stay in a clam and soothing atmosphere. Hogenakal also offers a local touch to the tourist as the local masseurs offer oil massages to people with quality effort and thus relaxing the people. Hogenakal is supported by the best of the communication from Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri by busses and trains.
Theerthamalai: Theerthamalai in the Dharmapuri district is an important place and thus it becomes an attractive tourist destination. The place again being a hill top the place has the temple of shree Theerthagirishwarar, a holy place of shrine for the local mass. The temple becomes more popular during the time of “Mahashivratri”. A huge footfall of human beings is found especially on this day as the temple comprises of the idol for lord Shiva.
Hanumanthathirtham: The place is named after the mythological character of Hanuman, who is believed to have been instructed by the Lord of Ram to fetch water and Hanuman not returning had made Ram create the waterfalls and thus making it a place of interest for the tourist who would like to visit Dharmapuri and the out skirts. The place is situated at 10 km from uthangarai and is placed in the banks of the Penniyar River.
Adhiyamankottai: The place being situated on the Dharmapuri and Salem road in the national highway. The place marks to be an interesting place for the fort of the Thadoors. The fort comprises of marks of battle that they had fought is still there. The fort is a place of visit for many of the tourist due to its interesting shape of oval. The place is having a temple that was made ages back by the hoysla kings and had been a holy shrine for many who are still from the family.
